A Revised (and by that I mean I corrected typos and the more glaring grammatical errors - good god, who wrote this?) short history of our sweet WARC 90.3

Allegheny College’s WARC Radio 88.1 FM began broadcasting on Sunday, February 3, 1963. Broadcasting, however, did not just 'happen.' WARC radio, in 1963, was a result of two and a half years of research, meetings, development, and dedication. In 1961, a questionnaire was circulated by then-sophomore Norm Greene ('64) and met with great response from the student body. From there Greene presented a set of radio station proposals to President Lawrence Pelletier, who granted his favor. However, President Pelletier stipulated, ever cautious, that more research needed to be completed in order to obtain the proper station licenses.

At that point, Pelletier appointed a faculty advisory committee, which was composed of six professors and administrators. That committee reviewed the station proposal and drafted a list of questions, called "The Inquisition", which addressed some of the basic details about college radio. Where was the equipment going to stay? Who would pay for it? What was necessary for a successful station? Greene replied to these questions in a report gave to the committee. Greene then worked closely with the committee and they submitted their findings in January of 1962. The project was then approved and construction began! In 1963, WARC began broadcasting at 88.1 FM on the radio dial; however, this was changed in 1964 to the current 90.3 FM.

WARC Meadville is one of the few remaining free form radio stations in the country. If you hear it on commercial radio stations, chances are you won't hear it here.
